The Town and Country Planning General Development Order 1973
In 1973 we saw a new version of the GDO produced. This version replaced the 1963 version as well as the five amendments made to it.
This order applied to the whole of England and Wales.
We didn’t see any new development rights in this revision. Although we did see Class I improved to now allow for porches, hard standings and oil tanks. Class II now allowed for creation of accesses to properties, reflecting the increased need to park cars on properties.
SI 1973/31 was laid before Parliament on 19th January 1973 and came into operation on 1st March 1973.
